My Stoma Is Sticking Out

I look after the skin carefully and it s in reasonable condition.

My stoma is sticking out.

Faecal contact with skin for those with a colostomy pancaking where the output sticks to the top of the bag can cause the bag to lift and the output to come into contact with the skin which can cause sore irritated skin. Came home with the dreadful hollister bags got rid of them real quick then changed to a one piece coloplast flat base. Most stomas stick out a little over the skin but some are flat. Damaged skin around your stoma can be hard to manage because you need to place the ostomy pouching system over the irritated area.

So it is important to take special care of the stoma to avoid. There was about an inch of well intestine protruding out of my stoma. When the intestine does not function well enough to move stool out through the anus a procedure can reroute part of the intestine to the surface of the abdomen waste can be eliminated into a pouch attached outside the body called an ostomy appliance. A stoma is very delicate.

And now i write this i m not sure why i just never asked the surgeon directly. My stoma sticks out about an inch. Ileostomy output is more acidic and corrosive as the enzymes are not being broken down by the colon.
